According to North Carolina FreeEnterprise Foundation, Beaufort County Commissioner Hood Richardson, a Republican, will challenge Senator Marc Basnight in November.

Commissioner Richardson is well known for being a strong advocate for conservative principles.  He has been in a flap with the Beaufort County School Board recently over the U.S. History curriculum.  That preceded this month’s uproar over proposed NC DPI curriculum changes.  He even challenged Governor Purdue to a debate over illegal immigration.
