Patriots 28560 will offer a 13 hour DVD seminar study course based upon the United States Constitution, “The Miracle of America, Learning the Meaning and Substance of the American Heritage.” This FREE study course, “The Miracle of America” was especially designed for those who realize there is something seriously wrong in America, particularly when compared to the vision of our Founders. But many of us believe we are too busy to find out what can be done to correct the problems. If the Founding Fathers were alive, they would undoubtedly assure us that we can make a difference, and they would likely state the solution requires three things:

1. A fairly comprehensive understanding of the Founders’ original success formula, which was based on a free-market economy and a constitutional form of government.
2. A good understanding of what has been happening to the Founders’ success formula since the year 1900.
3. A sincere desire to restore America to a free-market economy and constitutional government in the tradition of the Founding Fathers.

If you believe returning to our constitutional foundation is necessary for our Nation’s survival, you will enjoy – and benefit greatly — from this 13 hour course that will be presented over two consecutive Saturdays.

The “Miracle of America” will be offered at the Carolina Pines (Township Six) Fire Station, Carolina Pines Boulevard.

Part One will be held Saturday, June 12, from 8 a.m. til 5 p.m.

Part Two will continue Saturday, June 19, from 8 a.m. til 5 p.m.

Each session includes two 15 minute breaks in the morning, a one-hour lunch break, and two 15 minute breaks in the afternoon. Coffee, doughnuts and soft drinks will be complimentary. Attendees are requested to bring a sack lunch and snacks. Attendees will be provided a comprehensive study guide for a nominal materials fee of only $15.

Ok, I’m going to bring up a subject that no one wants to talk about: Marc Basnight’s desire and ability to serve. If elected to another term, will Basnight fulfill the full year two year term or will he step down and allow a successor to be appointed by the Democrat County Chairs of the eight counties in his district?

First scenario, will his deteriorating health cause him to step down mid-term? His doctor said, in September, that the neurological disorder is not affecting his cognitive abilities and “It’s not going to get bad very fast.”

I ask you to listen to a clip of Senator Basnight in January 2009 and then listen to a clip of him one year later.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0JBjI-njJw

In the second clip, his speech is slower and more slurred and the structure of his sentences is incomplete and sometimes odd. Whatever he has, he’s not saying. That leads me to believe that its something the general public would find alarming enough that he might not be able to get elected. Watch for his public appearances to decrease over the next few months.

The second scenario is that the Republicans win a majority in the Senate and Basnight loses his power. Yes, that is possible and even likely. Here’s a good article on that topic. Or the Dems narrowly keep the Senate but Basnight is not voted in as President Pro Tempore. Do you think he will stick around? Not likely. He’ll cite his health and step down.

What happens if he steps down? The Democrat Party Executive Committees from his District will appoint his successor. The counties in his district are Beaufort, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, Tyrell, Pasquotank and Washington. Think you’ll like who they choose? Think it will be someone who represents your interests?

It’s worth remembering how Tim Spear came by his seat. Bill Culpepper was re-elected to the seat and then mid-term was offered a job by Governor Easley on the Utilities Commission. The Executive Committees of the represented counties appointed Tim Spear over Stan White . Read more about how that happened in this Washington Daily News article. This is how politics works, my friend. History repeats itself, again and again and again. Look at our Register of Deeds office. It was held by Dottie Fry for many years. She retired in 1997 and Barbara Gray was appointed her successor by the Dare County Democrat Party Executive Committee. When Barbara Gray retired after re-election in 2006, The DCDPEC appointed Vanzolla McCurran. This is how they do it. The Democrats aren’t Democratic. They prefer appointments over elections. This will happen with the District 1 Senate Seat, count on it.

All you Conservatives in Dare County, I know you like Marc Basnight. You think he’s done well by the County. But this is not about the past, its about the future. Do you want to choose your Senator or have him chosen for you buy the Democrat Party Executive Committees of eight counties?

We have a chance to elect a TRUE Conservative in this election. Hood Richardson is proactively, un-apologetically, in-your-face Conservative. You can have change in November, change that you choose, or you can have change sometime after November, change chosen the Democrat Party Leaders in District 1. Choose wisely.

NC GOP Chair Tom Fetzer announced on March 23rd that he had found some unusual contributions made to Senator Basnight from Hobbs Upchurch & Associates, donations similar to the potentially unlawful contributions made by employees of Atlantic Corp. Readers of this blog are fully aware of my numerous posts on the donations made by Atlantic Corp and Hobbs Upchurch to Marc Basnight. I bit my tongue when Fetzer called for an investigation into contributions from Atlantic Corp to Governor Perdue. Mainly because I had not reported on the Perdue contributions, only those given to Basnight. But the press conference on March 23rd about the Hobbs contributions leads me to the conclusion Mr. Fetzer may be taking credit for my work. Here’s what Mr. Fetzer had to say about how he found out about these contributions:

“We did a Google on the employees and discovered that Wes Carter, Mr. Carter’s son, also has an involvement with a company called Hobbs Upchurch and Associates that’s in Pinehurst,” Fetzer said, noting that employees of the engineering firm have given large contributions to Basnight.”

What is odd is the timing of the press conference. This blog was hit 814 times on March 22nd, the most hits ever, by far. Most of the hits were on the Basnight posts. Average daily hits up to that date were under 100. Many of the site visits came from news stories on the Atlantic Corp scandal where I had linked my blog posts about the Hobbs’ donations. Is it a coincidence that Mr. Fetzer uncovered these unusual donations on the same day as my blog had record hits on the Basnight/Hobbs posts? If you ask me, it would be a much more powerful story if Fetzer would give credit where credit is due. A headline like “Citizen Journalist Uncovers Potentially Unlawful Contributions” showcases the power of the people. It would be a boon to the GOP to acknowledge the power of WE THE PEOPLE instead of taking advantage of us.

On Friday, Governor Beverly Perdue returned $48000 in donations from Atlantic Corp because of the possibility that the donations were illegal. The donations, you may recall from my November post, were made by officers of Atlantic Corp all on the same day for the maximum amount of $4000. The NC State Board of Elections is investigating whether the employees were reimbursed for their contributions. On Saturday, Marc Basnight asked the NC State Board of Elections how to handle the donations that he received from Atlantic Corp. which may also have been illegal. Atlantic Corp is owned by Rusty Carter, a frat brother of Mike Easley. Rusty Carter’s son, Wes Carter, works for Hobbs Upchurch & Associates. From one of my other earlier post on this topic, you know that Hobbs Upchurch employees also donated the maximum amounts all on the same day. Those contributions should also be investigated.

The time has come for the Pay to Play culture in Raleigh to come to an end. To think that the Governor and the President Pro Tem of the Senate were unaware of these donations is absurd. We must hold our politicians accountable for their abuses. It is time for new Senate representation in District 1.

Fellow Patriots,

Update on Obamacare from DC… Thanks to all of you who have spent hours calling, emailing, faxing your representatives! It HAS made a difference!! This bill would have passed long ago, if they had the votes. Congress members that we met on the street in DC today who are voting against this bill tell us that we still NEED your help right NOW! Not next week, but Sunday! We’re within 3 votes!

Folks, I don’t know how to say this in a nice way, but this is like Pearl Harbor, but the enemy is within. WE have a duty as American citizens to stand against those within our government who would threaten our liberty. Our liberty is UNDER attack right now.

I’m glad that people showed up, but it should have been more like a million plus for what is truly at stake. We all have busy lives, but think back to the sacrifices that your parents, grandparents and our current military who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us free!! That freedom is at stake.

I’m very troubled by reports on Geraldo ( FOX News ) tonight about racial slurs that were supposedly hurled against a group of black legislators that passed by the crowd assembled between the Capitol and the Congressional offices today. I was in that crowd on the opposite side of the street watching that particular group go by. I didn’t hear a single racial slur, but what I did hear were the same vehement pleas to Congress members, both black and white that passed by us to Kill the Bill. Those in support, black or white gave us a thumbs up or if not, they marched by us stoically, as we increased our yells to Kill the Bill. This particular group all came out together, would not face the crowd. People in the crowd booed, but I never heard anyone around me say anything racially derogatory. Those around me were mad, about the injustice of the bill, but no racial slurs. It sounds to me like more of the same… ram it down our throats at any cost, results justify the means, attack the messenger … Saul Alinsky the crowd to distract from the message.

Who knows if there were really people who yelled this sort of thing whether they were part of our loosley associated grassroots group or there with another agenda? There are tunnels that run between the Capitol and these office buildings. Knowing there was an angry crowd of protestors, the majority of those Congress members voting Yea took the tunnels to avoid seeing the protests. In fact, the President did a similar evasive move. We had been told by Congress members against the bill that the President was scheduled to pass through that very intersection where we were all gathered on his way to another give away session to Dems at the Capitol. He never did. Later we determined that they snuck him in another route, perhaps by helicopter to avoid seeing the large number of Americans that had travelled from all across the nation to protest this bill. So, did this group perhaps have an agenda? Who knows?

Keep up the fight tomorrow. on the phones and email. Those of you who are here tonight in Washington, see you tomorrow in the “Halls of Congress”! Never Give UP!!

Good Night,

The Republicans of North Carolina’s 3rd District will take up a resolution questioning Walter Jones’ support of a controversial House Bill at their annual convention on April 17, according to the Jacksonville Daily News. The resolution, approved by the Duplin County Republican Party, asks Jones to explain his co-sponsorship with Dennis Kucinich of H. R. 248, a bill requiring immediate troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. The resolution was brought to the Duplin County GOP by Joe McLaughlin, a former Jones rival for the 3rd District seat. It asks Jones to remove his sponsorship of the bill and to hold a town hall style meeting to hear the voices of his constituents on this matter. Jones office issued a statement saying that his support of the Bill is a way of opening up debate on the matter. Jones, the statement says, does not support immediate troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

In the last election cycle, the largest contributor to Congressman Walter Jones’ campaign was a company by the name of Emergent BioSolutions. Mr Faud El-Hibri, President of Emergent BioSolutions, and his family contributed $11,500 to Jones in 2008. They contributed another $4,600 in 2009. Emergent BioSolutions is the maker of BioThrax, an Anthrax vaccine. In October 2008, Emergent won a $364 million contract from the Department of Health and Human Services to supply 14.5 million does of the BioThrax vaccine to the government, which is uses to inoculate military personnel. Additional funding on the above contract in the amount of $30 million was obtained in June 2009. Contributions from Emergent to Jones’ campaign occurred in April and September 2008 and in August 2009. Jones is a member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee.

Coming in second in the largest contributor lineup for 2008 for Walter Jones is the SEIU. Yes, ladies and gentleman, that’s right, the Service Employees International Union contributed $10,000 to Congressman Walter Jones in 2008. Jones was one of 25 lucky Republicans to receive money from the SEIU that year and one of only five to receive their most generous donation of $10,000. SEIU also contributed $2000 to Jones in 2006 and $2500 in 2004. We’ll need to do some digging to find out why the SEIU found Congressman Jones so deserving in 2008.

The companies of Hobbs Upchurch and Atlantic Corp are two of Marc Basnight’s biggest contributors. Atlantic Packaging Corp, based in Wilmington, is owned by Rusty Carter. His son Wes Carter works for Hobbs Upchurch & Associates, an Engineering firm based in Southern Pines. Rusty Carter, if you remember, is a friend of Mike Easley and was subpoenaed to the Board of Elections in connection with his contributions to Easley.

In 2008, the employees and family members of these two companies contributed $120,000 to Basnight’s campaign. What is odd is that extraordinary contributions are made by ordinary people with ordinary jobs. For instance, the Survey Manager of Hobbs Upchurch donated $8000 to Basnight in 2008 and he has been a regular contributor since 2000. According to Basnight’s BOE filings, Gary Culp, donated $8000 in 2000, $4000 in 2002, $2000 in 2004 and $8000 in 2008. Culp is listed in 2008 as living in Raeford. The average salary in Raeford is $36000. When contacted by phone and asked what compels him to contribute so heavily to Basnight, Culp responded “

“Well, we’ve been friends for awhile uh and and, uh, when we go out there, uh I try to frequent his restaurant. But that’s just that. That’s what we got.”

$8000 because he likes his restaurant? Friend helping a friend?

Hobbs Upchurch website states that they have secured more than $540,000,000 in grants for their projects. Some of these grants come from agencies in which Basnight has appointed Board Members such as Clean Water Management Trust Fund. Over $20,000,000 in grants was awarded to Hobbs Upchurch from the CWMTF, according to their website. Many of the other agencies listed are interconnected, receiving grants from each other such as Golden Leaf the NC Rural Center and several of them have Basnight appointees on their Board.

The cronyism in Raleigh is absolutely sickening. Our money is manipulated and shared among political donors, appointees and other self-important people who think they know better how to spend our money than we do. I, for one, have had enough. It is time for Basnight to go.

This is a partial reprint from the Wall Street Journal. New Bern KTM member Peggy Ramthun’s son Alex is in the top photograph in the article.

MARJAH, Afghanistan—As Capt. Anthony Zinni monitored a live video feed from a Predator drone circling overhead, he spotted four men planting a booby trap in the middle of the road here.

For Capt. Zinni, one of the officers responsible for approving airstrikes in the nine-day-old battle for Marjah, it seemed like an easy call: The men were digging a hole alongside a road where a Marine supply convoy was scheduled to pass within hours. But just as he was about to give the order to strike, Capt. Zinni spotted even-smaller white figures on the video running along the path south of the canal.

Children. Maybe 50 feet from the men planting the booby trap. “It’s not a good shot,” Capt. Zinni said, ordering the Predator drone to delay the strike. “It’s not a good shot.”

The 45 minutes that followed help illustrate why it is taking coalition forces so long to secure this hotly contested part of Afghanistan.

As the biggest coalition offensive since the Taliban government fell in 2001 enters its second week, allied officials on Sunday said it could take at least a month to secure Marjah and Helmand province as troops here meet pockets of unusually stiff resistance. U.S. and Afghan troops were converging Sunday on a western quarter of Marjah, officials said, where a group of remaining Taliban had concentrated and were apparently making a stand.

The town of 75,000 has been under Taliban control for years. Allied commanders know they won’t be able to persuade Marjah residents that the Afghan government deserves their support if the troops kill the friends and relatives of the very people they’re trying to win over.
